A Day in the Life

Citizen's Voice of the Day

"To the caller who says lighten up on the homeless, let me tell you something. I was homeless, I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education and became homeless due to a domestic violence situation. I had Samuel's House here in Key West to help me out and right now I am a productive member of the community. I work, I pay taxes, I don't do drugs or drink, and I'm not mentally ill. Homeless people come in every shape and size."

I've been kind of in a funk today after the outcome of yesterday's voting. In the races I really cared about -- President, U.S. Senator, and Schools Superintendent, I batted .000. I noted when filling out my sample ballot at home that I cast ballots for more Republicans than for Democrats, but I guess that's what Independents do, isn't it. I found some kindred spirits in my travels about town today, so I at least had others to commiserate with.

The Blue Angels are in town this weekend at NAS Key West, on Saturday and Sunday. We'll probably go there on Saturday with a friend, a local cab driver, who called tonight to see if we wanted to go with him and his date. Janet and I have never attended an air show of any kind, and our nephew Michael, my brother Marty's son was a Navy pilot for about ten years, so we're excited by the prospects of seeing what it was that he did during that time. Plus, we've never been out to the NAS at Boca Chica and I've always been curious about what it's like there. Report to follow if deemed of general interest.

This is all I can muster up for words tonight. I'm sure I'll feel better in the A.M. Until then .....
