Key West Film Society

We went to the Tropic Cinema last night for the July showings of films from the Best of the Manhattan Short Film Festival. It's our second one; we missed the first in May, went to the second in June, and will go again in August. In September, we'll be voting on a selection of films entered into the 2005 festival, along with viewers in 49 other venues across the country.

While I was there, I noticed that the Tropic Cinema now has a Film Institute, and that they are going to be offering courses in filmmaking in September and beyond, in cooperation with Florida Keys Community College.

For anyone curious about the filmmaking process, this appears to be quite a good opportunity. At $250, it's a bargain. A similar course in Boston is in the thousands of dollars.
