Open for business

We're back online. Internet returned here sometime this afternoon while I was having a nap.

There's a parade tonight on Duval Street. Some are saying that some of the floats will roll, others that it's just another big bar stroll. At the end of the Masquerade March from the cemetery to downtown yesterday, a massive police presence showed up outside of Bourbon Street and moved everyone off the street. Some of the party moved up Duval to LaTeDa while the rest stayed at Bourbon Street. The 'organizers' of the march, if indeed there were any organizers, failed to apply for (or weren't granted) a street closing permit or a parade permit. The authorities were tolerant of the parade itself, guarding intersections and redirecting traffic, but they weren't about to let a party break out that closed Duval Street for any length of time. It may be the same tonight. Despite complaints from some of the marchers, I think it was the right thing to do.
