Only in Key West

May 30, 2006
Key West Police Department

A man clad in a purple women's bathing suit and skirt was arrested yesterday after he showed a bartender a gun and said he was going to "Get rid of all the dirt bags in Key West."

Jeffrey Clon Anderson, 55, was charged with carrying a concealed firearm for the flare gun he had tucked under his skirt.

Just before 11 p.m. on Monday, officers were dispatched to 224 Duval Street in reference to a man carrying a firearm. When they arrived, they met with a bartender who said she had seen a man, later identified as Anderson, dancing in the street showing tourists his private parts, and asking people for money when they took his picture.

The bartender said that Anderson then approached her, telling her he was going to get rid of the local dirt bags, and lifted up his skirt to show a the handle of a gun tucked near his crotch.
The bartender immediately called police, who quickly located Anderson in the 100 block of Simonton Street. An orange 12-gauge flare gun with a black handle was found in his crotch area.

Anderson was transported to the Monroe County Detention Center without further incident.

I don't have to make these up. These kinds of things really do happen here.
