Navy moves to COR II

NAS Key West sets COR II for Tropical Storm FAY and Orders Military Families at Sigsbee Park to Move to Shelters Monday Morning

NAS Key West, Fla. – Naval Air Station Key West has set Condition of Readiness TWO (COR II) in preparation for the approaching Tropical Storm Fay.

COR II is set when a storm has assumed a definite pattern and threatens the area with destructive winds expected within 24 hours.

Commanding Officer Captain Steven W. Holmes has ordered all residents living in Sigsbee Park housing area to move to assigned shelters on Monday morning, August 18 at 7 a.m. Residents MUST check into their assigned shelter no later than 11 a.m. The causeway leading into Sigsbee Park will be closed to incoming traffic by noon. Residents in other military housing areas have the option to report to their designated shelter. They must be prepared to move to assigned shelters if ordered.
The air station will be closed tomorrow except for personnel moving to shelters and essential Federal employees. Non essential Federal employees at NAS Key West will be on administrative leave on Monday and Tuesday. Other Federal workers in the Florida Keys should verify their work schedules with their supervisors.

Residents ordered to assigned shelters will remain at shelters until they are told by the commanding officer that they can return home. Residents will not be allowed to return home until Navy officials inspect for safety hazards and other damage following the storm.
