The official National Weather Service forecast now shows the storm track of tropical storm Fay moving a little more east, now crossing nearer to Islamorada and taking a near northerly path as it leaves the Cuba mainland. The forecast also shows it as a tropical storm (39-73 mph), not reaching hurricane strength (74 mph) until making landfall on the west coast of Florida.
Nevertheless, the TV weather people are hyping it, as they always do, and broadcasting scenes of tourists on Duval Street whooping it up. It's expected that emergency managers will issue a mandatory evacuation for tourists at 8 AM on Sunday and activating evacuations of special needs residents in hospitals and nursing homes.
Rick and Susan are out tonight getting a close-up look at what a pre-storm looks like from the ground.
We're planning to have breakfast at Turtle Kraals in the morning, at which time we'll have the 5 A.M. forecast. We'll take another look at the probabilities and risks and decide if we need to re-plan.
