Starry, Starry Night

What I have to say today doesn't have a lot to do with Key West in a direct way.

I was wandering on the internet a bit this morning and discovered the Don McClean American Pie web site, and a treasure trove of his music that can be streamed or downloaded.

What caught my attention in particular was a downloadable Windows Media Player movie consisting of his song "Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)" with a slide show of Van Gogh's paintings. This was especially meaningful to us, because our granddaughter, Amanda, painted a copy of that painting last year and gave it to her mother as a Mother's Day gift. It was just before we left to come here, and we haven't seen them since then, so there are some evocative memories associated with both the painting and the song. As soon as I saw the movie, I e-mailed a copy of it to Amanda, wondering whether she knew the connection between what she painted and a piece of music history that occured before she was born.

Janet sat and listened to it through four times, tearing up at the lyrics each time she listened.

To download the movie yourself, go to the "treasure trove" link above, and scroll almost to the bottom of the page.
