Future of Key West?

John Dolan-Heitlinger is President of the Key West Chamber of Commerce and President of the Keys Federal Credit Union. This column appeared in today's Key West Citizen.

It's a gloom-and-doom forecast for Key West as-we-know-it, but very likely an accurate view of the outcome of the trends now underway.

I was talking with friends about this article and these matters at the Coffee Plantation this morning. I repeated my oft-stated belief that, for the two of us, Janet and I, Key West is no longer a forever kind of place, as much as we love living here. Our only hope for that, I suppose, would be to hire ourselves out as servants to one of those independently wealthy families that Dolan-Heitlinger describes, living in the servants quarters attached to their multi-million dollar estates.

Actually, that doesn't sound like such a bad idea.
