News Day

We got up at 3:30 this morning to watch the Pope's funeral mass. There were severe thunderstorms developing when we went to bed at around 11, and by 3:30 there were a couple of inches of water in the plastic bowl that we put in the bathroom to catch the water that drops in around the vent stack when it rains heavily.

Janet is getting ready (slowly) to head off to work, and I'll be out the door soon after she leaves at about 8:30.

I have a session scheduled with Little Boy to review the work he's done in his GED prep book. He's working in the math section right now, the section that he'll find most difficult when the time comes to take the exam.

A couple of news items caught my attention on the Citizen web site today: the Police Chief, Bill Fortune, has decided to retire (again) and an interim chief was appointed by the City Manager to fill his shoes. Chief Fortune brought a measure of stability to the Department during his brief tenure. He was named chief in January of 2004, following the firing of the former chief "Buz" Dillon. The other item I found interesting was about raids conducted at several clothing stores on Duval St., suspected of selling counterfeit "brand name" merchandise.

And of course, today's is the day for the weekly papers, Solares Hill and Key West the Newspaper.

Time to get dressed now. I might be back on later today.
