Another Voice

Citizen's Voice of the Day

"I, for one, am glad that the Harris School bill fell through. Money and time wasted on art is shameful and indicative of egotistic behavior. I believe Key West is a grave yard of these ancient hippy-types who have no clue that they are more of a novelty here than a local culture. Pretentious and seriously self-deluded, they march through auras onto the next plane, lost in their own image. What is it about these artistic types that makes them feel more enlightened than the rest of us who can't, or just don't want to, paint, sculpt, or write endless dribble about life in paradise? How many more pictures of a parrot can I look at without throwing up? Artists ? who needs 'em?"

Tell us how you really feel.

Another caller has a different view:

"I'm thrilled beyond words that we have another chance to have an artist community in Key West. I was charmed by Harris School and excited by the potential of the building and courtyard the first time I laid eyes on it, and later thrilled to hear of the wonderful plans for its use ? the best I could imagine. An artist community in that setting would be fantastic ? the best thing to come Key West's way in ages. Please, please don't blow it again!"
