There are always rumors. Here are a couple that may or may not be correct, but are plausible.

Harbor House, the condo development begun on the former location of an R/V court and campground behind Schooner Wharf, may be going under. I noticed Thursday night that all of the contractor signs that were on the wooden fence surrounding the property are gone. The gate to the mostly empty lot hang open and the whole place is looking seedy. The one building that is finished and which presumably contains the model unit sits lonely on the corner by Lazy Way where the sales trailer is also located. There's no sign of occupancy.

If true, it doesn't bode well for the Cortex Companies, developers, who have properties throughout the Keys and elsewhere in Florida.

The other rumor is that Red Lobster is taking over a Duval St. restaurant and bringing yet another chain-store property onto Duval St., further homogenizing Key West so that it loses the feel that makes it the special place that it is. Chain drugstores, chain clothing stores, chain fast-food places, all kinds of chains

I stood on the outside deck at Hot Tin Roof last night for an after-dinner cigarette and looked out over the outer harbor and thought the words from Camelot: "In short there's simply not a more congenial spot for happy every after-ing than here ...". It's my Camelot.
